Prevention of abdominal wound disruption utilizing the Smead-Jones closure technique.

D Wallace, W Hernandez, J B Schlaerth, R N Nalick, C P Morrow.

Abstract

Midline abdominal wound closure with the Smead-Jones technique was reviewed on an oncology service. No dehiscences were recorded for 747 patients. This result was compared with a lower-risk gynecologic service that used layered wound closures. The mass closure was superior in prevention of wound disruption.
