The need for an increased number of consultant physicians with specialist training in gastroenterology.

Medical gastroenterology has developed with great rapidity in the last decade with the introduction of new investigative and therapeutic techniques. Nearly every district general hospital now has on its staff a consultant physician with this special interest, and yet there is still a need for a further expansion in the number of such consultants. This memorandum explains why and where further consultants are needed.
