Detection of Clostridium difficile cytotoxin in HEp-2 and CHO cell lines.

P R Murray, C J Weber.

Abstract

The detection of Clostridium difficile cytotoxin was compared in two established cell lines; Chinese hamster ovary (CHO) and a human epithelial line, HEp-2. All specimens with positive toxin assays were detected with the CHO cell line, whereas only one-half of positive specimens were detected with the HEp-2 cells.
