Decreased capacity for non-shivering thermogenesis during lactation in mice.

P Trayhurn.

Abstract

The capacity for non-shivering thermogenesis (NST) has been measured during and after lactation in mice. NST was found to be reduced in early and mid-lactation and at the time of weaning, the reduction being greatest at mid-lactation. By one week after weaning, however, the capacity for NST had returned to the level in virgin animals.
