Abstract
This study investigated the processing of information during picture recognition. The subjects studied a single target picture and then were given a series of same-different recognition trials during which eye fixations were monitored. Distractors for the test trials were systematic transformations of the target picture. The results indicated that during recognition, information is encoded from a wide area and utilized both to direct additional eye fixations and to reach response decisions. The data also suggested that some of the processes involved in picture recognition are active simultaneously.Mesh:
