Drug utilization in a general intensive care unit.

Abstract

Drug utilization in 200 general ICU patients was retrospectively studied. One hundred and two different drugs were prescribed with a mean of 7.0 +/- 4.6 drugs/patient. The potential for polypharmacy and drug interactions is discussed, as is the cost of such therapy.
