Abstract
Treatment of Bacillus subtilis with 0.4% (vol/vol) toluene renders cells permeable not only to small molecules but also apparently to proteins as large as 30,000 daltons. Methyl-accepting chemotaxis proteins and two smaller polypeptides were methylated when B. subtilis methyltransferase II was added to permeabilized cells.Entities:
