Bulbar artificial sphincter.

F Schreiter.

Abstract

41 cases of postoperative male urinary incontinence were treated by implantation of the AMS artificial sphincter (model AS 800) with a success rate of 92.7%, using a modified bulbar implantation technique. The operative technique is described and the complication and revision rates discussed. In our experience the artificial urinary sphincter is a highly effective method of treating severe cases of urinary incontinence, even after radical prostatectomy or transurethral resection.
