Abstract
Fifty consecutive patients with chronic airflow obstruction who were admitted to a respiratory unit were assessed medically and psychiatrically. A high rate of psychiatric morbidity (58%) was detected with panic and other anxiety disorders (34%) being particularly prevalent. Various physiological and psychological reasons for the high rate of anxiety disorders are discussed.Entities:
