Total hip replacement and sciatic nerve trauma.

M McLean.

Abstract

Intraoperative injury to the sciatic nerve is a known risk during total hip replacement. Postoperative injury by an implant is rare. A case of sciatic nerve laceration possibly caused by a protrusio ring is presented. The presentation of the patient, the mechanism of injury, and the means to avoid it are discussed.
