Mitral valve replacement with preservation of chordae tendinae: rationale and technical considerations.

T E David.

Abstract

Mitral valve replacement with preservation of chordae tendinae and papillary muscles may preserve postoperative left ventricular function better than conventional mitral valve replacement in patients with chronic mitral regurgitation. The technical aspects and the rationale for mitral valve replacement with preservation of chordae tendinae are reviewed.
