Abstract
Introduction: Tobacco use is a leading cause of cancer death among people living with HIV (PLWH) worldwide, and smoking prevalence tends to be higher among PLWH. The burden of both HIV/AIDS and tobacco use is increasingly concentrated in low- and middle-income countries (LMICs), where resources to address these challenges are often limited. However, there has been limited effort to date to integrate tobacco cessation into HIV programs in LMICs.Entities:

Research needs along the implementation continuum for tobacco cessation among PLWH in LMICs.
| Preimplementation | Adaptation | Barriers and facilitators | Scale up and integration | |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Research targets | (i) Identify factors that influence likelihood of cessation in PLWH in LMICs | (i) Adaptation of evidence-based interventions for PLWH from high-income settings to LMICs | (i) Understand the influence of local, contextual factors (such as tobacco use patterns) on tobacco cessation among PLWH in LMICs | (i) Evaluation of strategies to integrate and scale up tobacco cessation into existing HIV treatment settings |
