Abstract
BACKGROUND: Studies have suggested a link between prenatal maternal acetaminophen use and adverse developmental outcomes in children. However, there exists a knowledge gap regarding overall cognitive development and use of acetaminophen, especially concerning the timing of use in pregnancy. This study aimed to characterize the relationship between maternal acetaminophen use and cognitive development at 4 years.Entities:

aAlcohol consumption during pregnancy is defined here as more than one drink per week during pregnancy, and/or more than one drink per week before pregnancy if drinking ceased less than 2 weeks before pregnancy was discovered.
bEarly pregnancy is defined here as the first 12–16 weeks of pregnancy.
cLate pregnancy is defined here as the period between completion of the first questionnaire and 28–32 weeks of gestation.

aIncidence rate ratios were estimated with a robust error variance for a dichotomized classification of NIH Toolbox performance based on a threshold at the 10th percentile of scores.
bMultivariable Poisson model adjusted for maternal age, ethnicity, education, alcohol use during pregnancy, and child’s sex.
cDuring or before pregnancy is defined here as the period between the 3 months before pregnancy and 28–32 weeks of gestation.
dBefore pregnancy is defined here as the 3 months before pregnancy.
eEarly pregnancy is defined here as the first 12–16 weeks of pregnancy.
fLate pregnancy is defined here as the period between completion of the first questionnaire and 28–32 weeks of gestation.
