Abstract
Pre-operative intravenous cholangiography as an alternative to routine operative cholangiography at elective cholecystectomy has been assessed in a retrospective manner in 286 patients. Most of the examinations were technically satisfactory (94.7%) and of these 1.8% proved incorrect. A small number of patients developed transient skin rashes (1.3%), the only side effect recorded. Preoperative intravenous cholangiography offers an alternative to routine operative cholangiography with the potential saving of both operating staff and radiologists' time, without sacrificing accuracy.Entities:
