Dear Editor,We would like to share ideas on “Fetal gestational age determination using ultrasound placental thickness (PT).[1]” Azagidi et al. concluded that“ PT has a linear relationship with GA, fetal growth parameters, and EFW and it can be used along with other fetal growth parameters to increase the …. the subject is not sure of or does not know her LMP.[1]” We agree that the ultrasound placental thickness might be useful for estimating fetal gestational age. However, it still requires a good history of mother. In the area where the thalassemia/hemoglobinopathy is highly prevalent, the interpretation of PT has to be very careful since abnormal PT is a common clinical feature of ones with those inherited disorders.[23]
