Abstract
AIMS: Hip arthroplasty aims to accurately recreate joint biomechanics. Considerable attention has been paid to vertical and horizontal offset, but femoral head centre in the anteroposterior (AP) plane has received little attention. This study investigates the accuracy of restoration of joint centre of rotation in the AP plane.Entities:

Fig. 3Diagram of sagittal CT slices used to measure sagittal tilt of femoral stem and the resulting anterior displacement of the femoral head; "d" is the distance from the centre of the femoral head to the intersection of the stem axis and proximal femoral axis.
Descriptive statistics of anteroposterior offset, femoral anteversion, and stem sagittal tilt on the operated and non-operated sides. All data were normally distributed.
| Variable | Mean | SD | Range |
|---|---|---|---|
| Native anteversion, ° | 8.5 | 8.1 | -14.6 to 26.4 |
| THA anteversion, ° | 12.9 | 9.8 | -11.6 to 31 |
| Native APO, mm | 10.3 | 6.1 | -3.5 to 22.8 |
| THA APO, mm | 13.1 | 7.6 | -2 to 39.1 |
| Difference in APO between THA and native side, mm | 2.8 | 6.5 | -7.4 to 25 |
| THA APO corrected for tilt, mm | 17.4 | 7.3 | 0.94 to 33.3 |
| Difference in APO between THA and native side once THA side corrected for sagittal tilt, mm | 7.1 | 6.3 | -4.4 to 19.2 |
| Sagittal tilt, ° | 2.3 | 1.8 | -4 to 6 |
APO, anteroposterior offset; SD, standard deviation; THA, total hip arthroplasty.
