Results are reported as median with interquartile range or as absolute numbers with percentages. BMI: Body Mass Index, SOFA: Sequential Organ Failure Assessment, ICU: Intensive Care Unit, ARDS: Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome, PBW: Predicted Body Weight. Mann–Whitney Test and Pearson–Chi2 Test. Missing values: Time per physiotherapeutic session was not available for n = 2 males. No other missing values were found. Data on insulin dose per body surface area before muscle biopsy are reported in n = 42 male and n = 17 female patients who received biopsy.
Figure 1(a) Sex-specific insulin sensitivity index by HE clamp and metabolites of (b–d) glycolysis and (e) lipid metabolism by microdialysis in M. vastus lateralis during HE clamp. Missing measurements of metabolites occurred during microdialysis in n = 5 male patients. The number of patients for each measurement are given in the figure. The results are given as median with interquartile range. Mann–Whitney Test.
