Differing bioavailability of salbutamol metered-dose inhalers.

S K Chhabra1.

Abstract

The bronchodilator efficacy of two brands of salbutamol (USAN albuterol) metered-dose inhalers (MDIs) was compared in a double-blind protocol involving 31 asthmatics. Specific airways conductance (SGaw) measured by body plethysmography was used as an indicator of airway caliber. The results show that chemically equivalent salbutamol MDIs can differ significantly in therapeutic efficacy.
