Abstract
Introduction: Dementia is a known risk factor for both delirium and acute systemic infections which may also play a significant role in promoting or accelerating neurodegenerative disease. Infections are both the main causes of hospitalization of dementia patients and can be a major precipitant of delirium but currently it is not possible to predict the risk of cognitive decline in older patients exposed to acute infection.Entities:

Categorical variables were analyzed using Chi-Square statistics (Gender, Formal Education, Residence, Type of Infection, CNS drugs usage) and remaining variables groups were compared using ANOVA statistics.
Bold values are statistically significant differences between groups sig. p < 0.05.
