Abstract
OBJECTIVES: Paraguay has experienced a 35% reduction in the detected incidence of leprosy during the last ten years, as the vaccination coverage against tuberculosis (Bacillus of Calmette and Guérin [BCG] vaccine) reached ≥95% among infants. The objective of this case-control study was to evaluate the protective effect of BCG on the risk of leprosy.Entities:

BCG, Bacillus of Calmette and Guérin; OR, odds ratio; CI, confidence interval.
Relative excess risk due to interaction=0.2–0.4–7.0+1.0=−6.2 (95% CI, −42.2 to −0.4); There is a negative interaction in the additive scale, also called sub-additive; Measure of interaction on the multiplicative scale= (0.2/0.4×7.0)=0.07 (95% CI, 0.10 to 0.87); There is a negative interaction in the multiplicative scale; The attributable proportion due to the interaction was −24.3 (95% CI, −100.0 to −3.2).
