Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Chronic hypertension is associated with left ventricular hypertrophy. Recent evidence suggests that secondhand smoke (SHS) exposure is associated with chronic hypertension, so we sought to examine the relationship between secondhand smoke exposure and electrocardiographic left ventricular (LV) mass among non-smokers.Entities:

Diabetes was defined as fasting serum glucose ≥126 mg/dL, hemoglobin A1c ≥6.5%, or use of an antihyperglycemic medication. Hypertension was defined as systolic blood pressure ≥130 mmHg or diastolic blood pressure ≥80 mmHg or use of an antihypertensive medication. Obesity was defined as body mass index >30 kg/m2. Hyperlipidemia was defined as total cholesterol ≥200 mg/dL, serum triglycerides ≥150 mg/dL, or use of lipid-lowering medications.
