Abstract
An adult patient survived a brain abscess with Pseudallescheria boydii. She received intraventricular miconazole, 20 mg every 72 hours (minimal inhibitory concentration = 0.4 microgram/ml), and surgery. The abscess resulted from an infected central venous catheter (Port-A-Cath) and steroid therapy. Miconazole caused a ventriculitis. There are 12 reported cases of P. boydii brain abscesses from 1965 to 1985 with only two survivors.Entities:
