Abstract
Staphylococcus saprophyticus is a common cause of acute urinary tract infection (UTI) in young women. Septicemia has not been reported in patients without signs of immunodeficiency. We report 2 such cases in previously healthy 19- and 33-year-old women. Thus, this microbe may give rise to invasive infection and should be considered when coagulase-negative staphylococci are isolated from blood cultures in patients with symptoms of UTI.Entities:
