Abstract
PURPOSE: Obstructive Sleep Apnea (OSA) is associated with the presence and severity of Non-Alcoholic Fatty Liver Disease (NAFLD). We aimed to investigate the relationship between the severity of OSA and NAFLD and to recognize a polysomnographic parameter correlated with progression of fibrosis, determined by a non-invasive score of liver fibrosis, FIBrosis-4 index (FIB-4), in patients affected by severe obesity and OSA.Entities:

Statistical analysis between the four groups was performed with One Way Analysis of Variance when Normality Test (Shapiro–Wilk) and Equal Variance Test (Brown–Forsythe) have been passed (data are presented as mean values ± standard deviations) or, if not, with the Kruskal–Wallis One Way Analysis of Variance on Ranks (data are presented as median value (25th–75th percentile)) and with Chi-square test in categorical variables; results were reported in the p column
Fig. 1Association of FIBrosis-4 index (FIB-4) with severity of Obstructive Sleep Apnea, determined by Apnea Hypopnea Index (AHI). Results are reported as box plot graphs: the box represents the lower and upper quartiles, the line in the box represents the median, the whiskers show the lowest and highest values, and the outliers are represented by black circles. Statistical analysis was performed by the Kruskal–Wallis One Way Analysis of Variance on Ranks
