Pituitary surgery.

E R Laws1.

Abstract

Surgical management of pituitary adenomas continues to be a safe and effective method for dealing with a large number of these lesions. The goal of overall management should be to provide the patient with the most effective means of long-term control of this benign but potentially disabling disease. At present, surgery plays a significant role. It is hoped that with advances in understanding of pituitary pathophysiology and with advances in pharmacotherapy, surgical management may become even more focused, more precise, and more effective over time.
