Abstract
IMPORTANCE: Management of severe coronavirus disease 2019 relies on advanced respiratory support modalities including invasive mechanical ventilation, continuous positive airway pressure, and noninvasive ventilation, all of which are associated with the development of subcutaneous emphysema, pneumomediastinum, and pneumothorax (herein collectively termed barotrauma).Entities:

Figure 1.A timeline of the clinical course and interventions for patients suffering barotrauma. CPAP = continuous positive airway pressure, ECMO = extracorporeal membrane oxygenation, L = left, NIV = noninvasive ventilation, PE = pulmonary embolism/emboli, R = right, STEMI = ST elevation myocardial infarction. *Details regarding proning, paralysis, and nonrespiratory organ support are not known for patient 8.
