Abstract
RATIONALE: COVID-19 is likely to be stigmatized. The people of Hubei province perceived courtesy and affiliate stigma due to the geographic linkage to COVID-19. Perceived courtesy stigma refers to the experience and perception of stigma of people who associated with COVID-19 (e.g., the geographic linkage); Affiliate stigma is the internalization of perceived courtesy stigma among the associates; the “Denier”, “Confused moderate” and “Perceiver” profile include individuals who perceived the low, moderate, high level of perceived courtesy and affiliate stigma, respectively.

Fig. 2The percentage of endorsement of a stigmatizing response of participants in different profiles (N = 2813). Note. Items of perceived courtesy and affiliate stigma were collapsed into dichotomies (“Strongly agree” and “Agree” coded as 1; “Strongly disagree” and “Disagree” coded as 0). Size of circle corresponds to percentage agreeing on each item in each profile.
