Abstract
INTRODUCTION: Severe traumatic brain injury (sTBI) is a common cause of death and disability worldwide, with long-term squeal among survivors that include cognitive deficits, psychosocial and neuropsychiatric dysfunction, failure to return to pre-injury levels of work, school and inter-personal relationships, and overall reduced quality of and satisfaction with life. AIM: The aim of this work is to review the current literature on baseline predictors of outcomes in adults post sTBI.Entities:

Glasgow Outcome Scale
| 1. Death | Severe injury or death without recovery of consciousness |
| 2. Persistent vegetative state | Severe damage with prolonged state of unresponsiveness and a lack of higher mental functions |
| 3. Severe disability | Severe injury with permanent need for help with daily living |
| 4. Moderate disability | No need for assistance in everyday life; employment possible, but may require special equipment |
| 5. Low disability | Light damage with minor neurological and psychological deficits |
Comparing outcome predictor models for TBI IMPACT = International Mission for Prognosis and Analysis of Clinical Trials in TBI; CRASH = Corticosteroid Randomization After Significant Head Injury; CT = computed tomography; Hgb = hemoglobin; *CT findings in the extended IMPACT models = diffuse brain injury, evacuated vs... non-evacuated hemorrhage, traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, epidural mass; **CT findings in the extended CRASH model = midline shift, petechial hemorrhages, traumatic subarachnoid hemorrhage, obliteration of the 3rd ventricle or basal cisterns, non-evacuated hemorrhage; ***CT findings in the Brazilian model = Marshall classification
