Abstract
BACKGROUND: To decrease mortality, the benefit of combined healthy lifestyles has been suggested but is still unclear, especially for cause-specific mortality. We examined the relationship between combined lifestyle factors and all-cause and cause-specific mortality in Shiga prefecture, Japan.Entities:

Scoring of health behaviors on the study.
| Health Behaviors | Scoring Method |
|---|---|
| Diet quality | 1 = DRIs-J score 1 ≥ the median score by sex in the participants (the median score was 7.0 for both sexes). |
| Smoking | 1 = never smoking. |
| Alcohol drinking | 1 = consuming alcohol < 40 g/d for men or < 20 g/d for women. |
| Exercise behavior | 1 = engaging in 30 min of exercise at least twice a week and continuing for a year. |
| Sleeping | 1 = sleeping for ≥7 h/d and <9 h/d. |
| Total score | 5 |
1 The score was constructed using the Dietary Reference Intakes for Japanese (DRIs-J), ranging from 0 to 19.
