Rural designations are based on ZIP Codes and drawn from the Oregon Office of Rural Health Geographic Definitions. Rural is defined as “any geographic areas in Oregon 10 or more miles from the centroid of a population center of 40,000 people or more.” Frontier is “any county with 6 or fewer people per square mile.” We grouped rural and frontier ZIP Codes into one “Rural” category.
