Figure 1Angiotensin II (Ang II) stimulates angiotensin II type 1 receptor (AT1R) of vascular smooth muscle cells (VSMC) then exerts activation of mitogen-activated protein (MAP) kinases, including extracellular signal-regulated kinase (ERK) 1/2, p38 mitogen-activated protein kinase (MAPK), c-Jun N-terminal kinase (JNK) and ERK5. Activation of these MAP kinases results in VSMC proliferation and migration that may cause various cardiovascular diseases.
