Pigmented Ocular Fundus Lesions Associated With Familial Adenomatous Polyposis.

Chris J Li, Antonio Yaghy, Carol L Shields.

Abstract

A 36-year-old man was referred for evaluation after trauma to the left eye. He gave a history of familial adenomatous polyposis (FAP) diagnosed at age 15 years and treated with prophylactic colectomy. Funduscopy revealed multifocal pigmented ocular fundus lesions at the level of the retinal pigment epithelium (RPE) in both eyes (Figure 1A and 1B). The lesions were haphazardly distributed, oval-shaped, variable in size, and with irregular borders. On fundus autofluorescence, the RPE lesions were hypoautofluorescent and surrounded by trace hyperautofluorescence (Figure 1C and 1D). These findings represented the pigmented ocular fundus lesions that serve as a biomarker for FAP. [Ophthalmic Surg Lasers Imaging Retina. 2020;51:124.]. Copyright 2020, SLACK Incorporated.
