Obesity, metabolic syndrome and bariatric surgery: a narrative review.

Weiping Jia1.

Abstract

Obesity and insulin resistance are at the centre of most cases of metabolic syndrome (MetS), which may increase the risk of cardiovascular disease approximately 2-fold and type 2 diabetes mellitus approximately 5-fold. Aside from lifestyle intervention and drug therapy, bariatric surgery (BS) is considered a definitive treatment for this disease. This article is protected by copyright. All rights reserved.
