Figure 1Study design for the causes and solutions of procedural hypertension.
Figure 2Axial non-contrast CT abdomen during IRE demonstrating the distance between the electrode tip and adrenal gland. The two parallel white lines in the figure are IRE electrodes, the white circle between the electrodes indicates the tumor position (T), and the yellow circle marks the position of the adrenal gland (A). A In group I, a 74-year-old woman with a pancreatic head tumor (5.3×3.9×3.1 cm) had preoperative radial blood pressure of 102/55 mmHg; heart rate, 76 beats/min; epinephrine (32.3 pg/mL); norepinephrine (116.3 pg/mL); and dopamine (51.4 pg/mL). The procedural blood pressure was 220/97 mmHg; heart rate, 130 beats/min; epinephrine (187.3 pg/mL); norepinephrine (146.2 pg/mL); and dopamine (65.2 pg/mL). (B) In group II, a 59-year-old woman with liver metastasis of pancreatic cancer (1.8×1.5×1.3 cm) had preoperative radial blood pressure of 100/59 mmHg; heart rate, 71 beats/min; epinephrine (89.0 pg/mL); norepinephrine (133.3 pg/mL); and dopamine (61.1 pg/mL). No intraoperative hypertension occurred, and her postoperative blood pressure was 112/67 mmHg; heart rate, 83 beats/min; epinephrine (112.5 pg/mL); norepinephrine (135.2 pg/mL); and dopamine (62.4 pg/mL).
Figure 3Correlation of blood pressure with serum catecholamine levels during irreversible electroporation (IRE). R2, coefficient of determination. (A) Significant correlation was found between blood pressure and serum epinephrine during IRE (P=0.0003). (B) Positive correlation was found between blood pressure and serum norepinephrine during IRE (P=0.0253). (C) Positive correlation was found between blood pressure and serum dopamine during IRE (P=0.0015).
