*The following countries, constituting the MENA region, or variations of their names and their capitals or famous cities were included in the initial search: Northern Africa, Algeria, Egypt, Libya, Morocco, Tunisia, Algeria, Egypt/Bahrain, Iraq, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Oman, Qatar, Saudi Arabia, Syria, United Arab Emirates, Yemen, Turkey, Iran, Algeria, Bahrain and Palestine. These were included as both MESH terms and as keywords. The following conditions were also included in the search: autoimmune diseases of the nervous system – demyelinating autoimmune disorders of the CNS – transverse myelitis – multiple sclerosis – neuromyelitis optica – optic neuritis – encephalomyelitis, acute disseminated – clinically isolated syndrome – radiologically isolated syndrome – disseminated sclerosis – Devic’s disease – RADEM – ADEM.
