Figure 2Pathology samples of corneal tissues of rabbits in group 1 (pocket-only). Hematoxylin-eosin staining. Normal endothelium, stroma, and epithelium are observed in all cases except for four cases. These four cases (identifiers 101, 108, 115, and 116) showed midstromal fibrosis with irregularities of the collagen organization and absence of keratocytes around the scarring tissue.
Figure 3Corneal tissues of rabbits in group 2 (inlay). Hematoxylin-eosin staining. Optically clear polygonal empty spaces are observed in all cases with no evidence of PEGDA hydrogel inlays. Compression of collagen lamellas on the edge of the pockets and epithelial hyperplasia are visible around the empty space.
