Abstract

Cough is a normal protective reflex that can effectively remove foreign bodies and secretions from the airway. However, excessive cough adversely affects a patient's physiological, psychological and social functions. Thus, it is important to effectively evaluate the severity of cough to determine its diagnosis and treatment. Cough severity can be assessed with subjective or objective tools. Herein, we summarize the subjective evaluation of cough severity with questionnaires. 2019 Journal of Thoracic Disease. All rights reserved.
