Abstract
BACKGROUND: Poststroke depression (PSD) is a serious psychiatric complication often reported after a stroke. Nearly a third of stroke survivors experience depressive symptoms at some point, affecting their functional recovery and quality of life. In recent years, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation (rTMS) has been studied by many researchers and found to be a safe supporting tool for the treatment of PSD.Entities:

Figure 1.(A) The rTMS excitatory protocol—10 Hz on the left DLPFC (F3) using 100% to 110% of motor threshold—20 minutes session: 40 trains, 50 pulses per train, 2000 pulses in total. (B) The rTMS inhibitory protocol—1 Hz on the right DLPFC (F4) using 80% to 90% of motor threshold—20 minutes session: 1 stimulus per second (1200 pulses in total). DLPFC indicates dorsolateral prefrontal cortex; rTMS, repetitive transcranial magnetic stimulation.
