Figure 1Participant flowchart. All patients who fulfilled the inclusion criteria regarding frequent attendance were included in the study. The comparison group was randomly selected from the remaining patients. Exclusion criteria were severe mental or somatic disorder (eg, schizophrenia, anorexia and cancer), need for interpreter (due to other native language or deafness), ongoing alcohol- and/or drug misuse and severe disabilities, such as mental retardation.

Subgroup analyses of differences in short-form health survey (SF-36) scores among frequent attenders based on reported symptomatology. Differences are evaluated in those with versus without a specific health complaint and expressed as effect size for significant (p<0.05) results.
