Health-Related Quality of Life in Older Adults with Colorectal Cancer.

Evan Lapinsky1, Lillian C Man1, Amy R MacKenzie2.

Abstract

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: Health-related quality of life (HRQoL) is a topic of great importance among older patients with cancer. Here we review the literature on HRQoL in older patients with colon and rectal cancer. RECENT
FINDINGS: HRQoL in older cancer patients with colon and rectal cancer can be impacted by care delivery model, use of selected treatments (i.e., chemotherapy), and the trajectory of the patient after surgery for colorectal cancer (CRC). HRQoL is an important outcome for older cancer patients. Greater numbers of older patients are undergoing treatment for CRC and may experience wide variations in quality of life during and after treatment. Trials should be developed with HRQoL as a primary outcome, and interventions need to be developed to maintain or improve HRQoL in older patients with cancer.
