Abstract
The influence of endothelium on relaxation induced by glyceryl trinitrate (GTN) and isoprenaline (I) has been studied in isolated rabbit aortic ring preparations, in the resting state and after constriction with 5-hydroxytryptamine (5HT). In resting preparations relaxant responses to GTN and I were smaller in the presence of endothelium. In preparations constricted with 5HT relaxant responses to GTN and I were conversely greater in the presence of endothelium. These paradoxical findings are discussed in relation to basal release of endothelium derived relaxant factor.Entities:
