Abstract
Background: Previous studies are inconclusive on the relationship between parity and cardiovascular disease (CVD), with few evaluating multiple cardiovascular outcomes. It is also unclear if any relationship between parity and CVD is independent of breastfeeding. We examined the associations between parity and cardiovascular outcomes, including breastfeeding adjustment. Materials andEntities:

Data presented are median (interquartile interval) unless otherwise stated. Prevalent heart failure cases are coded as missing.
Missing data: socioeconomic deprivation—172 (2.00%), health insurance—12 (0.14%), smoking—12 (0.14%), years of reproductive life—498 (3.78%), age at first pregnancy—591 (6.86%), oral contraceptives (ever)—4 (0.05%), HRT use—299 (3.47%), decade of menarche—23 (0.27%), breastfeeding duration—663 (7.70%), BMI at age 25—115 (1.34%), BMI at baseline—7 (0.1%), HDL cholesterol—160 (1.9%), LDL cholesterol—252 (2.9%), triglycerides—160 (1.9%), and heart failure—634 (7.36%).
Higher scores indicate greater deprivation.
BMI, body mass index; CHD, coronary heart disease; HDL, high-density lipoprotein; HRT, hormone replacement therapy; LDL, low-density lipoprotein.
