Figure 1BtuCD–BtuF complex inserted in a solvated lipid membrane, as simulated in the present work. The structure was assembled by VMD[5] using the PDB file 4fi3(4) and an equilibrated lipid/water system. The periplasm is located on the top and the cytoplasm is on the bottom. The Btu-F protein is shown in dark blue, the transmembrane domains of BtuCD in magenta, and the nucleotide binding domains in cyan. Two ATP analogues trapped at the ATP binding site are shown as a pink surface.
