Abstract
OBJECTIVES: Midshaft clavicular fractures are increasingly treated operatively rather than nonoperatively. Studies have shown mixed results for both types of treatment. The aim of this study was to compare the early-stage functional status associated with open reduction and internal fixation (ORIF) with plating and that associated with conservative treatment for displaced midshaft clavicular fractures.Entities:

Figure 1A 24-year-old male with a left clavicle fracture received open reduction and internal fixation (a). Plain radiography shows solid union over the fracture site at the 1-year follow-up (b)
Figure 2A 60-year-old male with a left clavicle fracture received open reduction and internal fixation (a). He fell 3 months after the operation and plain radiography film reveals a broken plate and displaced fracture site (b). Revision open reduction and internal fixation was performed a week after the injury (c)
