Abstract
BACKGROUND: Active surveillance (AS) of low-risk papillary thyroid microcarcinoma (PMC) was adopted as a management modality in both the Japanese guidelines in 2011 and the American Thyroid Association guidelines in 2015. AS was initiated at Kuma Hospital in 1993 but was not immediately accepted by all physicians. This study investigated the history of acceptance of AS at Kuma Hospital over time. The results should assist in the implementation of AS at other hospitals in Japan and other countries.Entities:
