Abstract
BACKGROUND: The overall final outcome of assisted reproductive technologies (ART) is still more often a failure than a success. Assessing perifollicular blood flow (PFBF) is one technique to predict and possibly improve this outcome. The aim was to provide a structured review of studies concerning PFBF and its prognostic value in patients undergoing ART, including IUI (intrauterine insemination).Entities:

Figure 1— Power Doppler scans showing grading system used to assess follicular vascularity. (a) Shows 25% circumferential flow (grade F1); (b) 26–50% flow (grade F2); (c) 51–75% flow (grade F3) and (d) >75% flow (grade F4). (Chui et al., 1997)
Grading system for the follicles vascularity, expressed in percentage of follicular circumference in which flow was identified. (Chui et al., 1997)
| F1 | <25% of the follicular circumference |
| F2 | 25-50% of the follicular circumference |
| F3 | 51-75% of the follicular circumference |
| F4 | >75% of the follicular circumference |
