Abstract
BACKGROUND: The disease burden related to mental disorders and metabolic syndrome is growing in low-and middle-income countries (LMIC). The Colombo Twin and Singleton Study (COTASS) is a population-based sample of twins and singletons in Colombo, Sri Lanka. Here we present prevalence estimates for metabolic syndrome (metS) and mental disorders from a follow-up (COTASS-2) of the original study (COTASS-1), which was a mental health survey.Entities:

Twins participating in COTASS-2
| Zygosity | Number of Individual | Number of Twin Families |
|---|---|---|
| Monozygotic Males (MZM) | 533 | 295 |
| Dizygotic Males (DZM) | 366 | 215 |
| Monozygotic Females (MZF) | 730 | 397 |
| Dizygotic females (DZF) | 485 | 281 |
| Dizygotic Opposite Sex (DZOS) | 809 | 467 |
| Triplets | 11 | 5 |
| Zygosity missing | 1 | – |
Number of individuals in the twin groups is not twice the number of families due to missing data. Actual numbers of ‘complete pairs’ are not given since those differ per variable
