Abstract
BACKGROUND: Non-linear associations have been reported between baseline measures of alcohol consumption and type 2 diabetes (T2DM). However, given that drinking varies over the adult life course, we investigated whether differences existed in the longitudinal trajectory of alcohol consumption according to T2DM status.Entities:

Sample sizes differed according to item non-response at phase 1. Employment status not listed as all participants were employed at phase 1.
To explore differences between censored and non-censored groups, one-way ANOVA was used on continuous data, and the chi2 test on categorical data.
Mean and 95% confidence interval (CI).
Median and 25th and 75th percentiles.
E.g. Black Caribbean, African and Arabic.
Meeting guidelines (≥150 minutes of moderate-intensity or ≥ 75 minutes of vigorous-intensity activity per week); inactive (<60 minutes of moderate and <60 minutes of vigorous activity; below guidelines (not inactive or meeting guidelines).

Intercept coefficients refer to the average volume of weekly alcohol consumption at the time of diagnosis or censoring. Time coefficients refer to the change in the average volume of weekly alcohol consumption per 10 years closer to diagnosis or censoring. Superscript numbers for time refer to power terms.
