Abstract
PURPOSE: Repair of large incisional hernias includes the implantation of a synthetic mesh, but this may lead to pain, stiffness, infection and enterocutaneous fistulae. Autologous full-thickness skin graft as on-lay reinforcement has been tested in eight high-risk patients in a proof-of-concept study, with satisfactory results. In this multicenter randomized study, the use of skin graft was compared to synthetic mesh in giant ventral hernia repair.Entities:

The number of surgical site complications at 3-month follow-up in the full-thickness skin graft versus the synthetic mesh group. p values are calculated by the χ 2 test with exception for “Subjective improvement” which shows the median and p value calculated by the Mann–Whitney U test
