Abstract
Fifty-four temporally and geographically distinct isolates of Haemophilus influenzae serotype a were characterized by (i) outer membrane protein composition and (ii) DNA polymorphism at the cap locus. In 53 of 54 cases, knowledge of the outer membrane protein type was accurately predictive of the cap locus polymorphism, suggesting that the majority of H. influenzae (type a) isolates have evolved from a limited number of clones.Entities:
